The Eyes of the Beholder

While living with my mother’s family, I used to spend whatever free time I had between caring for my baby cousins and performing household chores watching telenovelas with my cousin. I was still sighted, then, and we used to marvel at the clothes the TV women wore, the dark makeup rimming their eyes, and the way they wore their hair cropped short like men.
